We have been doing green building projects since 1998. Carpistry’s existence evolved as we sought solutions to health issues in Tom’s family.
Tom’s own family home was Carpistry’s first green project in 2000, designed to alleviate his wife’s mold allergies. This is a 2,000 sq ft engineered log chalet on a mountain top in North Carolina, utilizing unused skyscraper parts collected in NYC (such as oversized windows, 8’ doors, slabs of granite, marble flooring, cherry flooring). The house was built as an exercise in mold-free living for $160/sq ft. A whole house fan on a timer replaced AC by exaggerating mountain breezes and being 6’ in the air on sonotubes insured no basement mold.

Go Green Construction was founded on the concept of using an ecologically conscious approach to building to help preserve our environment. We have extensive experience with most green building materials and techniques. In 2007, Go Green began a case study project we call Playa in the Westchester area of Los Angeles. This project has been pre-rated LEED Platinum, the highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. So far we have deconstructed the existing single-family home—taking it apart board by board, nail by nail; diverting 95% of the material from landfills. Go Green is a member of the USGBC, Build it Green, and Global Green, and is an Energy Star Partner, and an AIA affiliate.

Since 2005, Harrell Remodeling has made a substantial commitment to green building and its practices, however they were employing sustainable solutions long before then just as a matter of routine service for their clients. When the Build It Green Certified Green Builder Program (CGBP) was developed, the entire staff, including designers, builders, and sales people all completed the certification and continue to maintain it. Harrell Remodeling is also affiliated with the USGBC, Santa Clara County Green Business Program, and Build It Green.
