Exotics

EcoTimber exotic hardwoods are exceptionally beautiful and are off the charts in terms of hardness and durability. Because they are FSC-certified, using them is key to supporting sustainable forestry initiatives in the tropics where forests are rapidly being cleared for farming.

EcoTimber exotic hardwoods are available in Brazilian Cherry, Patagonian Teak, Tiete Rosewood, and White Tigerwood.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) procedures minimize waste and selectively harvest trees. Locally sourced species (West coast) are preferred. Significant energy used for logging, prep and transportation & production of adhesives. Hardwoods are more energy intensive than softwoods to harvest and produce.

Stock should be factory sealed. Site (field) applied sealer is an indoor air quality (IAQ) hazard. Adhesives should be low/no-VOC water based products.

My experience with the installation of this flooring has been quite satisfactory. The solid hardwood facing is beautiful and the factory installed finish seems durable with little or no odor during installation. My belief is that there are embodied energy issues with this flooring (transportation from another region of the planet), however, my understanding is that most engineered flooring (even domestic hardwood) is milled and finished overseas before being shipped to the USA. Ecotimber Exotic engineered flooring is milled in South America, from locally harvested FSC material in a socially responsible mill using low VOC glues and finishes. This product is then shipped directly to the United States once. My opinion is that this flooring is a beautiful product with good value produced with a healthy committment to social and environmental issues.
