Product Overview
Teragren bamboo flooring, panels and veneer complement classic to contemporary residential and commercial interiors. As product developer and manufacturer, U.S.-based Teragren controls quality from harvest to distribution.
Teragren uses only mature Optimum 5.5™ Moso bamboo for a more durable finished product. The environmentally friendly lamination adhesive has formaldehyde levels of 0.01555 ppm—6.5 times lower than allowed under stringent European (E-1) standards. Teragren bamboo products contribute two U.S. Green Building Council LEED© (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) credits: MR Credit 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials and IEQ Credit 4: Low-Emitting Materials.

Teragren Craftsman is a solid plank flooring product that comes in 6 inch widths, either prefinished or unfinished, in vertical grain, flat grain, and natural or caramelized colors.
Bamboo is not considered a wood, rather, it is a fast growing grass and is thus rapidly renewable. Presenting a viable wood alternative, bamboo is an increasingly popular choice when it comes to issues of protecting old-growth forests. Because of increased harvesting in areas like China and Vietnam, it is important to keep an eye on local sustainability questions such as social equity for workers and local environmental impact. Because the source material is harvested overseas, the embodied energy of this product is slightly higher than a locally grown FSC certified wood product.
Teragren uses Moso bamboo, a species noted for its hardness. On the Janka Ball testing method, most bamboo in the Craftsman series tested harder than white Oak or Rock Maple. Since durability is a factor in considering sustainability of a product, bamboo should be an excellent choice. Craftsman comes with a 25 year warranty.
Teragren should be commended as one of the few companies around who voluntarily does emissions testing on their products and associated adhesives. They have selected low VOC, water-based laminating adhesives, sealers and colors from the German manufacturer Klumpp. Their formaldehyde levels, a compound commonly found in bamboo because of the laminating process, are quite low comparatively, and adhere to stricter European standards.

Beginning in 1994 with its first bamboo flooring brand, TimberGrass, Teragren has worked exclusively with one factory group in China to ensure products are manufactured to Teragren’s stringent environmentally conscious specifications. The mill is ISO 9001:2000 and 14001 Certified with 11 quality control inspection stations in the production process plus a quality control engineer performing spot checks.
The Optimum 5.5™ Moso bamboo specified by Teragren for use in its bamboo building products is harvested at maturity (5-1/2 to 6 years) for a more durable finished product, leaving behind a thriving plant and new shoots to be harvested in the future. The bamboo is plantation grown in managed agricultural plots by independent farmers in the Zhejiang Province of China. Teragren supports farming families by paying fair market value for raw materials and by encouraging proper stewardship of this valuable resource.
